How is My Relationship with God?

She said...A lack of a relationship or a weak relationship with God causes us to be more receptive to situations and beliefs that are contrary to His ways. When our relationship is weak or we give it a low priority in our life, like Eve, we begin to trust the snake instead of God, eat the apple, and then we are on a path trying to hide from God.

Think about any relationship we have, the stronger relationships are because of the time and effort we give to them and how well we know the other person. The ones that have failed usually fall apart due to misunderstandings, failure to properly prioritize, and selfishness. How would we categorize our relationship with God presently? Do we trust God enough to guide us in life?

A weak relationship with God diminishes a man's defenses, and he begins to accept his own opinions and those of others as truths. Knowing the humanity of God through his Son, Jesus Christ, teaches us how to love and live in order to avoid the attractive lies that deceive us just as the snake deceived Adam and Eve.

Men learn how to love by knowing and modeling Christ's way of loving, and women learn what true love is by knowing Christ and His way of loving her. When we each come to know the humanity of God through a relationship with Jesus Christ, men will then love accordingly and women will recognize those men as true because women recognize the ideal that we learn from Christ's example. In knowing Christ, we no longer accept worldly opinions and attitudes as truths, but we recongize the truth in what God teaches us through his Son.

Strengthening our relationship with Christ will give us purpose and teach us how to trust and love. We won't feel the need to succumb to temptation and lies like Adam and Eve. Unlike them, we are fortunate to have Christ as our role model. When we are feeling attacked and weighed down by the world this is the time to stop and assess where we are in our relationship with God and His Son.
